We’re often not aware of the enormous responsibility and privilege that prayer is. This is because it has become foremost a ‘routine’ Christian ritual… But this is a call and a reminder that we have a voice and we can make it count. More so, may this song stir us up to be vulnerable to God. In addition, to take a second look at what we say in His presence. And finally, to get us to be real and also unselfish. Inspired by Jesus’ Prayer in John 17. – William-Adusa David
William-Adusa David – If Your Prayers Were Written Down LYRICS
If your prayers were written down, How would the story go?
Would somebody near find mercy?
Would any be healed?
When I get on my knees What do my lips release?
Every time we talk to God, What mysteries unfold?
If your prayers were written down,
What would the mind conceive?
Would your every word be selfless?
And would burdens fall When I get on my knees?
Do fears and worries cease?
Every time we talk to God, How much does it avail?
If your prayers were written down,
What would your heart reveal?
Or would mindless repetition,
The power of faith — conceal
Does divine counsel resound,
Or mundane philosophy?
Does it end something like this:
“In Jesus’ name, Amen”?
Jesus’ prayers were written down.
His passion wasn’t hid
Everything He had in mind
There in John seventeen
We were sweat upon His brow
Calluses on His knees
And now we have been called,
Heirs to love’s travailing-spree
Jesus, open up my heart That I may intercede!
Jesus, open up my heart That I may intercede!
Ooooohh, open up my heart That I may intercede!
Jesus, open up my heart That I may intercede!
